Setting expectations for formal observations

Formal observation looming?
Administrators such as principals often have past experience as students in language classes, and those experiences will inform their expectations of what instruction in your class should look like.
If you are teaching your classes in the target language with a focus on providing students with input, administrators might interpret what is happening in your classroom as:
- the teacher is doing too much of the talking
- not student centered
- confusing
- no observable learning targets
These observations are misguided, and it will benefit you to have a conversation with your administrator prior to your observation that sets expectations.
Our favorite resource for "coaching" your admin is this checklist, created by Bryce Hedstrom.
