Can I use Somos for my edTPA evaluation?

Yes! Teachers are passing their edTPA evaluations using The Somos Curriculum.

Here is advice from some of those teachers:

  • Look at the rubric and explain how each part of the lesson plan relates to what the rubric is asking. Use the language from the rubric as you make your explanations!
  • Use the unit overview sheet included in the unit to create a "central focus", or real-world application skill. This can be created by using the Essential Questions at the top of the Unit Overview and the Real-World Purpose in the Proficiency-Oriented Instruction section of the overview.
  • Write very specific, measurable daily objectives- for example, "responds with complete sentences" or "responds with yes/no answers in the target language".
  • Create and administer a pre-assessment, then give the same performance task a second time later in the unit to show growth. The Universal Screener is a simple tool for this!
  • If possible, provide different versions of your assessment for differentiation. For example, provide a simple and a more complex reading passage and let students choose which they want to work with.
  • Feature different skill sets- feature a student with a 504 plan, a gifted student, and a heritage learner.
