What is Huellas?
Huellas is a content and proficiency-based curriculum created by Somewhere to Share that is designed for intermediate Spanish learners in upper level courses. The units were created in the classroom for Spanish 3 and 4 students.
Is a preview available?
Yes! Here are links to free units embedded in the Huellas Curriculum.
Huellas 2.2 Hay un orangután en mi habitación
What are the goals of Huellas?
Continue to develop acquisition of language through the intermediate levels
Incorporate more complex topics such as the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals
Provide opportunities for students to explore cross-curricular themes
Provide opportunities to interact with authentic materials that are accessible to them
Provide students the opportunity to learn how they can make an impact in the world (in the target language!)
How long does it take to get through each unit?
Each unit of Huellas takes approximately 1 to 2 weeks to complete. There are some Huellas 2 units that take between 3-4 weeks. Each of these units is based on a class period of 45 minutes that meets 5 times a week.
How many units are in the curriculum?
Both Huellas 1 and 2 consist of 15 units, but Huellas Freeform units are being added all the time to give more choice of content to teachers who might not have the ability to incorporate classroom readers.
What is included in each unit?
While the activities in each unit will vary depending on the topic, you can find the following in each unit:
Aperitivos (warm-ups)
Vocabulary list with core structures related to the theme of the unit
Grammar Bubble - allows teachers to see the grammatical structures that students will be exposed to
Students sheets that can be shared through your school’s LMS or easily uploaded to Google Classroom
Comprehensible Readings mixed with an appropriate use of authentic materials
Can-do Statements
Essential Questions
Various options for assessments
Is Huellas a good fit for my students?
If students are coming from a CI background, especially the Somos program, this will be the perfect intermediate curriculum for them! They will be familiar with the formatting of some of the activities within a unit.
This is also a curriculum for students who might not have a CI background. There is not a traditional grammar approach, but students are exposed to past, present and future tenses along with more complex structures that are readily available to students to use.
For students in IB and AP programs, Huellas incorporates themes in AP Spanish Language and Culture. However, due to the specific content required of the AP test, Huellas is not intended to be a fully IB or AP curriculum.
Where can I collaborate with other teachers using Huellas?
We have a Facebook Group dedicated to teachers using our curriculum! Here is the link where teachers share what they are doing!
We also have a Collab Folder where teachers have added their own materials.
I’m ready to dive in and buy the curriculum! Where can I do that?
You can buy from the Somewhere to Share Teachers Pay Teachers store or directly from our website. You can also buy the curriculum at The Comprehensible Classroom’s store.
Can I buy with a Purchase Order?
