Are Somos Curriculum assessments procedural or conceptual?

Different than other content areas, linguistic knowledge can not be categorized or measured using the terms procedural or conceptual. With an understanding of these two ways of classifying knowledge, however, the assessments administered in courses taught with The Somos Curriculum more resemble conceptual assessments, as they provide holistic views into students’ communicative ability in a specific skill area. In each course assessment, students’ performance is a direct reflection of their mental representation of language, which is their implicit understanding of the relationships between linguistic items.

The assessments do not require students to demonstrate discrete knowledge of grammar and/or vocabulary nor how to combine those specific linguistic items in order to create or interpret meaning, which could be considered a procedural assessment within the framework of language instruction.
